The Andy Oxborough Page - Home of Paxtons Old Number 1 2004/2005 Sponsor : Lisa Lovelock Comment from Matt Plumb: Andy has been a valuable asset to the club over the last 10 years, joining the club when they played in the old hunts league. After a bad knee injury, Andy missed 2-3 seasons before returning as the club played their first season in the Cambs league. Andy has enjoyed success winning Senior B and then Senior A in consecutive seasons. Andy then joined Newmarket Town for three seasons but returned to the club at the end of last season. Although injury prone he remains one of the best keepers in the area and is always missed when not in the team. Andy is now Chairman and along with the rest of the committee plans to take the club onto better things. February 2004 Andy returns to the club. 1st Team Managers Player of The Season 1999/2000 2000/2001 Sponsor : Mark Spavins Andy was with the club for a good few seasons now and matured into one of the best goalkeepers in the league, he has now gone to seek fresh challenges (I mean money) at Newmarket Town. His record last season was played 31, won 20, drawn 4 lost 7. In those games he conceded only 34 goals (twelve clean sheets) while 79 went in at the other end. As at the end of August his record this season is played 4, lost 4, scored none and conceded 14, Town are bottom of the Jewson Premier. Quote from the Cambs Evening News 27/8/01 - "The visitors could have had more but for some great goalkeeping from Andy Oxborough in a very one-sided match." Like all keepers he fancies himself as a striker, his moment of glory occurred on Tuesday 7th April 1998 at Buckden as he came on in the second half for the reserves up front. Taking the ball out of defence he went past one player, over the half way line, past two more, drew the keeper and slotted the ball home for the winner (he's never let me forget it!). Another moment of Oxborough history. Sunday 29th April 2001, Andy takes a free kick inside his own area, bangs the ball downfield, one bounce and over the opposing keepers head. Pat Jennings did it first.
